What is a Hair Transplant?

A is a surgical procedure that moves a portion of the hair follicles from a donor site to a recipient site. The process is typically performed on male pattern baldness. The donor site provides the patient with the best chance of getting a full head of new, healthy hair. Generally, it takes a few months for the process to take effect.

FUSS transplants work by moving existing hair from one area to another. The surgeon will remove a 6- to 10-inch strip of scalp from the back of the head and close the scalp. This new skin will grow new hair right away. The new growth will be visible eight to 12 months after surgery. After the procedure, many doctors prescribe finasteride (Propecia) to prevent further hair loss. After the transplant, there may be some temporary side effects, but these are not permanent.

While hair transplant surgeries do not provide a full head of hair, they can help improve your self-confidence and self-esteem. Often, they can even restore confidence in your own appearance. A FUSS surgeon will use a technique known as FUSS to improve a person’s self-esteem. This surgery is done in a doctor’s office. After preparing the patient, the surgeon will clean the scalp and inject a medicine to numb the back of the head. The hairs will then be carefully separated from the strip of scalp and transplanted into the bald area.

The procedure takes about five to seven hours and requires an incision about six to ten inches. The donor area is usually the back of the head. During the surgery, a surgeon will slice the strip of skin into 500 to 2,000 minuscule grafts. Each graft will contain individual hair. It can take up to nine months for a graft to take root. It takes approximately two weeks for the hairs to be transplanted into the recipient area.

When you need a hair transplant, your doctor will remove a small strip of your scalp. After removing the strip of scalp, a doctor will carefully separate the follicular grafts to your balding area. The surgeon will then clean the recipient area and implant the new hairs. The process can take between three and nine months. This procedure will give you the desired results. Your surgeon will choose the best method for you.

After the donor area is numb and clean, your surgeon will perform a hair transplant. During the procedure, your surgeon will remove a small strip of your scalp from the back of your head. He will then sew the scalp closed. Once the strip is placed, the skin will heal. Your hair will grow over the newly transplanted follicles. In both cases, you will see a new patch of your hair after about a year.
